High Stakes Antics At The Preakness

The Triple Crown never seemed so two-sided.

There are those who go to the races to see and be seen.  The rich and famous, and the classy entourage they bring with them.

And then, there’s this crowd…sound is mildly NSFW.

Sure, it may not be the smartest behavior, but doesn’t this  spontaneous-looking game say something about culture?

All it tells me is what I already know. Humanity hasn’t really changed much over the course of 3000 years.

Its a perfect game involving everyone. One contestant is challenged on his/her skills of balance, speed, and timing. The others are challenged on their throwing skills, like aiming. Both sets of skills necessary for survival. The tools of the game are developed through creative multi-purposing of unrelated items. It shows creativity, playfulness, and competition. While simultaneously serving the evolutionary role of learning through play or even perhaps the same processes involved in a lek, bachelor herd, or display arena.

Such a shame none of them were seriously hurt. That would have made it so much more fun.

Having attended the infield of Preakness for many years with a local radio station, I can tell you this is the highlight of the event. Yes, it it a terrible waste of good beer.

Are you saying rich and famous people are classier than poor people? I can think of a few notable exceptions.
