Hitching a Ride to the Inauguration

By Miss Cellania in Travel on Jan 21, 2009 at 9:44 am

Two Dutch students, Omar Kbiri and Lennard Hulsbos, found themselves on a last-minute trip to Washington, DC to watch the inauguration, thanks to Virgin founder Richard Branson! Branson was at a conference Tuesday in Amsterdam and mentioned he was flying back to the States for the inauguration. The original story in Dutch is available here. An English translation provided by b°b (the full version is in the comments):

To make his speech more interactive, the attendees were allowed to send their questions to the Englishman to a big screen via text-messages. On the question “Can you take 2 broke students to Washington DC?” Branson answered “Yes” immediately. After his speech, the two students stepped inside Bransons’ limousine and drove to the airport where Branson’s private jet was already waiting.

The two ‘poor’ students didn’t even have to pay for their hotel. A sponsor spontaneously offered to pay the bill.

Link to English translation by Google. -Thanks, b°b!

I guess it pays to be broke sometimes, I just hope he did not leave them in D.C.

    Drukus,

Looks like you don’t know Richard Branson very well. He’s known to lure broke Dutchmen into his private jet and send them to D.C. to work in the Virgin sweatshop.

What a simple text-message can lead to. Two ‘poor’ Dutch students will be at the inauguration of Barack Obama in Washington tonight. They will be travelling with British business-entrepeneur Richard Branson, owner of the Virgin Group, in his private jet.

The two students, Omar Kbiri and Lennard Hulsbos, sent the businessman a text-message during a congress in Amsterdam and he immediately invited them to travel with him.

Branson was a guest-speaker at the ‘Big Improvement Day’ gathering. Mostly businessman were attending. He told the attendees he was flying to Amerika that day, to attend the inauguration of Obama.

@scooter. I saw a part of the interview, he litterally said: “If you have your passports with you, consider it done.”

Going at no cost the plane to ride is good. But avoiding the being by dick stuck is also important for fit young men.

That Richard Branson, always the gestucking and goose gemachen… well, what I’m trying to say is: always bring a cork along, the tender parts to protect.
