Neatorama Forum Top Posters

Last month, we started a new feature on Neatorama: an open forum for Neatorama readers. In the blog post introducing the forum, I promised that the best posters will win a mystery prize, and since I'm a man of my words, here it is:

Congratulations to SparkS, blakdragon, and Johnny Cat for being the top forum posters. As my thanks, they'll get a free iPod shuffle (they even get to choose the colors!). The rest of the top participants in the forum, shown above, will get a free Neatorama T-Shirt.

Thank you again for putting in the time and effort to make the Neatorama forum an enjoyable to hang out and chat!

To quote Phil Rizzuto, "holy cow!" I think the last time I won something was an involuntary extension on one of my enlistments. GGG

I want to toss this out to the inimitable Dr S. I'd like to auction mine off to the highest bidder. Once I receive the money I will donate the same amount to Toys For Tots. I'll even pay to mail it to the winner. Or Alex can hold onto it and send it directly to the winner and/or collect the money and make the donation in the winners ID name. There will be a minimum opening bid.

While making sure I spelled Phil's name correctly I read this. I think it is hilarious!

"In Rizzuto's obituary, The New York Times recalled a play that had occurred on September 17, 1951, with the Yankees and Cleveland Indians tied for first place and just 12 games left in the season:

Rizzuto was at bat (he was righthanded) against Bob Lemon of the Cleveland Indians. It was the bottom of the ninth inning, in the middle of a pennant chase. The score was tied at 1. DiMaggio was on third base. Rizzuto took Lemon’s first pitch, a called strike, and argued the call with the umpire. That gave him time to grab his bat from both ends, the sign to DiMaggio that a squeeze play was on for the next pitch. But DiMaggio broke early, surprising Rizzuto. Lemon, seeing what was happening, threw high, to avoid a bunt, aiming behind Rizzuto. But with Joltin’ Joe bearing down on him, Rizzuto got his bat up in time to lay down a bunt. “If I didn’t bunt, the pitch would’ve hit me right in the head,” Rizzuto said. “I bunted it with both feet off the ground, but I got it off toward first base.” DiMaggio scored the winning run. Stengel called it “the greatest play I ever saw.”

As the winning run scored, Lemon angrily threw both the ball and his pitching glove into the stands."

Congrats. I enjoy the shuffle I got a few months ago for yakking in the comments. I totally forgot about the forum.

And thanks to SparkS for that excellent example of a non sequitur.

Jim and Alex,

I was thinking the auction could be right here on Neatorama. Alex could start the topic and take only bids and let it run a certain preselected time. Seems simple to me. I do simple. GGGG Tell the truth I know zip about the iPod Shuffle. Is there only one version/model? I only need that so I can come up with a starting bid. It might not go anywhere since prices on the internet vary so much. But I think it would be fun and some wee ones can be the real winners. Alex could send it to the winner or to me and I'll forward it on. Doesn't matter.

Who'da thunk I'd win an award for being such a motor mouth. GGGGG

2D, I'm pretty naive but how will we know if you don't do that? GGGG

ted, you realize since my memory is as long as the hair on my head I had to go back and reread what I wrote. GGGG

Speaking of "holy cow", I just added some cable channels to my favorites. Past hour I've been watching Why I Ran on A&E. High speed chases and then interviews with the person they were chasing. Holy Cow! Is on 0400 to 0500 EST.
