I think it would be related to the collision of internal organs upon impact. For instance, when you're in a car wreck, there are three collisions, the cars, the bodies/cars, and the internal organs/bodies.

I'm interested in what exactly caused the liver damage and to what extent the liver was damaged.

I don't know a lot about jumping or free-falling but what exactly about that activity can cause liver damage?

Minor liver damage is more than a scratch, but, wow! This guy thought very logically when he thought he was going to die... that's really admirable.
