Inspired by a scene of abandoned London in the zombie horror flick 28 Days Later, Ian Mansfield of IanVisits blog decided to bike down to London early Christmas morning and snap a few photos. This one above is of Piccadilly Circus, in London’s West End, completely devoid of humans.

Tescos was like that the other day - even though it was open. People may have splurged a bit before the hols, but it's dried up now.

I live in New York City.. No, this would definately not work.. People are always out, driving, walking doing whatever.. On new years, around midnight there were cars driving on the highways.

Wow, what a shitty circus...There's no animals or clowns! What a ripoff!

Wow, I really cannot imagine London so empty, especially in the west end, it boggles my mind. How freeing it must be to cycle around such a grand city while it's so empty!

I heard that E. Houston was completely desolate after 9/11. But I don't think it would be like that on Christmas. I moved to Brooklyn last year, but I was upstate with family during the holidays. Anyway, Lana's right.

I used to live near that (like 10 minutes away) and you would never see it devoid of people at any hour. So seeing this really is amazing!

I love that movie, and love the pictures accomplished in this photo set. The creepiest where the giant snow man decorations looking down at the empty world.

Jeanette - It is. I used to live in London in the 80s and early on a Sunday morning it's empty. The City is deserted at weekends - you could walk for half an hour and not see anyone except security behind their plateglass frontages.
Different since the Baltic Exchange bombings - when I last went through the City there were police checkpoints. Dunno if they're still there.
I used to get to the British Museum at opening time and headed for the deeper recesses before the crowds arrived - bliss.

How funny would it have been if there were TWO people who had this same idea???

Go to Pompeii first thing in the morning before all the other tourists arrive.

These are some great scenes, ive reposted on my blog.

Ian said in 28 days later they closed of streets where as im sure ive read somewhere, or maybe it was on the film commentary, that because the film budget was so low (it was a British Film Council film), they actually did the same thing Ian did and shot a lot of the scenes in the early hours of the morning in London, where these kind of scenes arent too uncommon even on normal days.

if im wrong please feed free to correct me.
