Frau – Think I’ll stick with the Butterfingers. Those things have coconut and peanuts in them. Doesn’t sound anything like Butterfingers.

There is a Death Valley Candy and Nut company in Beatty, Nevada that sells ALL of these candies. Even an old timey casino next door. I believe it is on Rt 93 or Rt 95 can’t remember which

@ Sparks > Chick-O-Sticks are probably a more regional item. I correct myself, I think Butterfinger was around earlier. But Chick-O-Stick are far much tastier than butterfinger.

I remember candy cigarettes. Loved ‘em, and bubble gum cigars. Yeah, candy cigarettes are basically chalk and sugar, although they must contain some addictive substance, because I will eat boxes of them.

All of these candies are still accessible today, i’m somethin’ like a candy connoisseur lol, they even have the modern labels on the candy that was actually out back in the 50′s & 60′s. for example they would have grape heads up instead of alexander the grape…look it up

I will second the Cadbury Curly Wurly for those looking for a Marathon Bar substitute. I tracked these down for a friend several years ago and he said they’re essentially the same thing. They’re from the UK so here in the USA I find them at imported food stores. You can also order them through Amazon I believe but they melt very easily so you have to be careful.

TJwtM – I liked Necco wafers, all except for the licorice ones. Luckily my beagle would eat them. GGG
Them and licorice jelly beans.

Frau – I like Butterfingers. I guess the original ones.
Didn’t know they were changed.

Another thing is Mallomars but it’s more a cookie than a candy. Is funny, I could eat them just fine but won’t be caught dead with a Moon Pie which the web says has the same ingredients.

We had a similar chocolate bar in Canada when I was a kid, but it was called a Wig Wag. Chunks of chocolate would always fall off the caramel and onto your clothes, which was not a great Mom-pleaser!
Does anyone remember a chocolate bar called Bar Six?

I live in York where the peppermint pattys and patty bites used to be made. Even the patties are hard to find here. If you ever find a place that sells the bites post it on here, i’d love to try them!

The gas station down the way has a lot of old favorites. It may have to do with the fact it sits along Route 66, and they are selling nostalgia with fuel.
You can get candy cigs (which we all know are made from bone meal and drywall material). They are not packaged as candy chalk. They are actually cigs.
They also have Chick-O-Sticks, the original butterfinger. And all of the candies made by Annabelle.
And Mallo-Cups. those are just some of the items.

But I guess if you do not have a gas station down the road, offa sixty six, then that candy shop has it all!!

Props for the Marathon Bar. It lasts a good, looooong time! I contacted M&M/Mars years ago and they were mum, going so far as to tell me that they had no records of it or pictures of the wrapper. Liars! You can get a remarkably good stand-in via the Cadbury Curly Wurly. If you were blindfolded you would never know the difference. Check out vintage and hard-to-find candy sites online for it. I have bought it at an Irish store (in IL), at Disney World (at the UK store) and online. Good luck!

Ha, candy chalk. How thinly veiled. I didn’t know they were still around at all! Haven’t seen them in years. When I stayed at my grandma’s house when I was little, we would stop whatever we were doing mid-day and have a cigarette and Coke break. We’d both have a Coke and she would have her real cigs; I’d have the candy version. My mom used to get so mad at my grandma.

Candy cigarettes are still around. They’re now disguised as “candy chalk.” You can still blow the candy to get the smoke effect, too.

It’s basically still the same candy, just a different, more PC packaging.

You can still get candy cigarettes.
At the dollar store around Halloween, they sell bags of candy “sticks”. We got like 6 bags, gave out 2 bags and ate the rest lol

Hershey’s made a mint chocolate bar that I used to love — disappeared sometime between 1997 and now. Anyone remember that? I think it had cookies in it, too. In summary, this post made me hungry.
