His family wasn't dirt poor, but not well to do either. Most of his Christmas' as a young boy consisted of an orange. It was a *huge* luxury to have fruit shipped all the way from Florida at that time. I definitely understand that young boy being very impressed with his Christmas orange. My dad was born in 1906.
