The Biggest Moon Since 1993

By Jill Harness in Pictures, Science & Tech on Dec 12, 2008 at 11:45 pm

Don’t miss the full moon tonight, it’s the largest moon in years because it’s the closest to Earth it has been since 1993. The composite image above shows how comparitively large the moon looks tonight compared to the average full moon. It’s about 14% larger looking and 30% brighter. That’s a whole lotta moon!

Unless you live in the Seattle area, then enjoy the clouds, cold, and slush. I hope to see some nice pics online later, tho!

I went out this evening to see the moon and try to get some decent pics of it, however, the weather here in Toronto is freeeeeezing! I couldn’t use my fingers beyond 2 minutes without them becoming numb. So no pics for me. :(

Last night’s full moon looked spectacular as it rose out of the ocean in balmy Boca Raton.

So preety. I sent this to my old Sci teacher. He takes pictures of the moon every night for the kids.

Wow, I didn’t know, and yesterday, as I was coming home late : I was thinking : “it’s so bright it looks like the night scene of the 60′s movies when they filmed during the day and added a dark veil of some sort on the camera.”

It looked incredible here in Texas. There was even a halo around it, which just added to its beauty.

This is most likely the “Moon Illusion”. See: http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/moonbig.html

It isn’t actually bigger at all.
