A Graphic Representation of Immigration to the United States, 1820-1970

No, this is not a political post. It’s just a cool video graphically showing streams of immigration from different parts of the world to the U.S. Nice swirly colors.

It is more like learn English or get out. Im tired of searching for English on packages anymore. Im tired of having to listen to Spanish options on phones. Im tired of seeing Spanish only advertising. I refuse to learn Spanish. Its time to kick out all of the illegal immigrants instead.

We are the easiest country to become a citizen of and there is no reason for people to illegally come here. They deserve to be deported and never allowed back here.

Lol Josh if you don't want to learn Spanish, why would they want to learn English? Because they live here? Im sure if you went to Mexico to live for a couple of years, and there were english options there, you wouldn't bother learning Spanish either.

If I decided to live in Mexico I would learn Spanish.

If you lived where I live you would understand where I am coming from. I am not even in the worst part. If I go south about 300 miles I will get looks as if I do not belong in that part of Florida.

The worst part of it there are lawyers protecting people smuggling illegal immigrants into south Florida.

    GO BACK TO MEXICO MORANS!
haha anyway, these people want a better life for themselves, so give them time to adapt.

So what scares you the most, Josh? Their brown skin or the fact that can speak (or at least understand) a bit of two different languages and you can only comprehend one?

Relax, man! The intermingling of different cultures is what gives a city a unique flavor, great food and festivals.

This video highly misrepresents the global immigration situation by ignoring the number of Americans who leave, the number of immigrants who go back home (or move elsewhere), and the number of migrants to other countries. As a result, it looks like America is being bombarded by foreigners from all over the world, which is very much not the case.

So I'd have to say this very much IS a political post.

There are multiple languages on packaging because products are sold in multiple nations not because of immigration, Josh. And while some Spanish service is provided in America for new immigrants, linguistic assimilation is just as fast as it ever was; some studies say faster. Most second generation immigrants are fluent in English (usually bilingual) and 95% of third generation Hispanic immigrants don't speak or understand Spanish at a functional level. So stop your bellyaching. If anything, it is Mexico and other Spanish speaking nations who are being inundated with English on satellite TV, business dealings and tourism. English is becoming the language which every language group uses to communicate with every other group and Americans complain about having to press 1 to have English service? Get real.

RE: #17/IanS Good pointer. There are a number of better entries there demonstrating the data.

Unfortunately they do not stream all over the screen and thus might be lost on those who need pretty colors and motion to begin to understand.

Hope you enjoy giving your hard earned money to illegals though welfare and other services that they some how manage to be eligible for. Billions of dollars are given to illegals each year.

You people may support amnesty but I do not and never will. Doing so will only make it unfair for the people who actually tried and became a US citizen though the correct means.

I had a family friend hit by a truck driven by a illegal immigrant. He had no insurance, no drivers license nothing. Imagine trying to tell someone who speaks not a word on English that you rear ended a car with a woman who is pregnant. Hand gestures gave the message and the guy freaked out but all the repairs had to go though their insurance which in the end cost them more for insurance.
