The Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps

Posted by Stacy in Video Clips on December 11, 2008 at 5:45 pm

I love this group. The Isiserettes are a non-profit drill and drum corps from Des Moines headed to D.C. in January to perform at Barack Obama’s inauguration. The official group is made up of kids ages 7 to 18, but I’ve seen some pretty tiny kids grooving out there (which is adorable).

This video is cool, but I have to say it doesn’t do them justice: they’re super impressive when you see them live. Here’s a video of the drum line in action:

  2. Rain on your parade

That's a long way to drive to show off something so boring.

  3. Great group to see

This group performed for Obama on the night Iowa put Obama on the map, winning the Iowa Caucases in January 2008 when he still was a long shot. The video doesn’t do them justice at all! They are exciting to see perform in person! I’ve seen them several times in Des Moines and this is a team that has really got it together. The kids in the Isiserettes start young and build. Their routines can be 15 -20 minutes long and during that time they are constantly moving and grooving in precision! They will be in the Inaugural Parade so I hope you get to see them! They are a great team, a great bunch of kids and what a great honor to perform at Obama's Inaugural!

Way to be jerks about kids. They're a volunteer drum corps of children, so maybe you shouldn't rain on their parade. Also, I believe Stacy mentioned that the video clip she found didn't do them justice.
It's Friday morning, what do you people possibly have to be this grumpy about?!?

Oh gosh, this group is AMAZING! And Stacy is right that the video clip doesn't do them justice. They are so good and so full of positive energy...they perform all over the state of Iowa and the US (including two trips to Denver to perform at halftime for the Denver Nuggets). Whether they're performing or competing, they are jaw-droppingly good to watch. They are a talented, disciplined group of kids. Just when you think they can't possibly get any better, they manage to do just that! And now they have the honor of marching in the Inaugural Parade...and we get the privilege of watching them and cheering them on. What an incredible experience for an incredible group of kids. :)

Too bad what we see in the video will not be seen in the parade.
They will be marching on a long parade route in washington DC in January. Bulky coats and potential ice patches are going to put a damper on thier performance.

Can we somehow tap some of that energy and store in come kind of cell for future consumption? If so, then they would be useful.

I'm with you, Erik. How dare Neatorama betray its readers by posting a video celebrating the talent and accomplishments of some young (black) kids.

More white yuppies and their iPhone cakes and steampunk helmets, I say!

I suppose if it keeps them from raping White women, robbing honest Americans,or smoking crack with their welfare checks it can't be all that bad!

    ...

I am from Des Moines and I had every idea they existed.

They will be wonderful representatives of Des Moines and Iowa.

A double-shame for those who would so easily dismiss them for being who they are. Amazing tolerance and diversity demonstrated there folks.

Boring! Let them dance away in Africa where they belong.

    *sigh*

My post had nothing to do with the color of their skin or their skills as dancers or whatever, but more to do with the lameness of the posts over the past few months. But way to take it there.

I agree, the video does not do them justice as they are fantastic to see live. This was the second time I had seen them play in Fort Dodge, and each time they had the streets lined up to watch them perform.

There is true talent in that group...my best to them with everything they do in the future.

Thanks for posting the video that was on MyFortDodge.com

It is extremely sad that racial slurs and comments have to be said about these kids. Two of my younger cousins are active in this organization and are far from crack heads, and rapists as you stated. Ignorant asses like yourselves are the reason the world is the way it is. The most I can say for you is that I know you wouldnt have the balls to say that to any blacks. Puss. Merry Christmas. Ill pray for you.

I have seen the Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps several times and they are AMAZING everytime. If you have not seen them live you need to. They all should be very proud to be able to march in Barack Obama's inaugural parade.

You will be proud to know the Obama's really enjoyed your performance in the parade. They were even moving with the drums. I cried because you represented Iowa in the best way. Energetically. Mrs. Obama pointed to the little ones in the back with a smile on her face as was the President. Thank you for welcoming them for us....you did us proud.

If this is the same group that "practices" at the vacant Moore School, you are literally driving neighborhoods in a three-block radius insane with the banging. Surely you are violating some type of noise ordinance. Why do you have to walk across the street and bug that neighborhood? Can you not "practice" at your own home? Why did you move from the Travis Audio parking lot?

Imagine listening to up to six drums banging for one to two hours two to three times a week right after dinner.......It's not pleasant at all. It would also be nice if you remove all your trash (water bottles, beverage bottles, food wrappers) from the parking lot. There is no one to clean up after you.

Would you PLEASE ask Hoover or Meredith to open up the school to you and let you practice inside? I would think that would be a better place for you. Please consider your neighbors..........

    Thank you.
