Test Your Geography Skills

Geosense is so addicting. It names a specific location, such as Analava, Madagascar, or Wonju, Korea. Then you have to find it on the world map.

It turns out that I am severely lacking in my knowledge of geography. If you're confident, though, you can go head-to-head with strangers to see if you know more than they do (there's also a "Play Alone" option). Good luck!

Hmmm...Perhaps they (whomever created this game) need a lesson or two. One that comes up is United States, Washington.

Answer: Washington = State of Washington
But no, that's incorrect...
They meant

Washington does not equal Washington D.C.

In addition to Washington/Washington DC, I also guessed wrong about which Portland they wanted. They wanted the one in Oregon, not Maine. That was a 50/50 shot, but I was sure "Washington" was not the state since it didn't have DC.

I think they reason they are wrong is because they are looking for cities, not states. Maimi, for example.

Which is also wrong because Washington D.C. is not a city either, even though we all treat it as such.

And there's no obvious place on the site to give them feedback either.

Washington actually *is* a city in the District of Columbia. Its present day borders are conterminous with those of the District, but that hasn't always been the case. Georgetown and Alexandria were separate, incorporated cites in the early history of DC, and I think a portion of Anacostia in SW DC also was in the mid-19th century.

Hey, it's not perfect. But I like it anyway.
What's sad is how far off I am from so many of the U.S. cities. But I did much better in the world map with scramble which I don't care for. Does anyone know exactly how you select an opponent? Also who gets to pick the map? I got thrown off for some reason. Maybe it go tired seeing such bad answers? GGGGG
