Personally, it looks like the dog was trying to hump the other one, or possible even move it so it can eat it.

And yes, hungry animals will canibalize each other. It is not rare. Even wolves will eat pack mates.

I know its hard for people to cope with, but animals are not furry humans, and the world is not a Disney movie.

Notice how when people say “Animals are better than people!111″ they usually mean dogs or cats, animals that have been bred for thousands of years specifically to be docile towards us. They will also chase and kill small animals for fun. I had a dog that had plenty food, but she loved killing squirrels and rolling around on their dead bodies. But if a human did this, people would be morally digusted. Animals do not have morals. That is why we do not hold them to moral standards like we do humans.

Let me know when you see a (non-female suffering the loss of her cubs) lion saving a hyena, a spider saving a fly, a horse saving a cow, an alligator saving a jackal, etc, or animals forming rescue groups even amongst their own species.

Its not even uncommon for chimps to kill and eat their own infant family members.

Sure, the dog could be saving the other, but it most likely isn’t. The reason this is on the news is because of how RARE it is for an untrained dog (who rescues because of rewards) to care about another dog in such a way. It is not the norm.

Did anyone notice the arrows in the highway when hero dog was dragging the injured dog, but no arrows painted in the road when the dog was run over???

Two things
Is this selfless heroic behavior as it appears?
Dogs drag with there jaws -not front legs.
Is this real?
IF so then again I have to change my mental awareness of dog and animal behavior.
I also recently saw the video of the polar bear playing with the chained sled dogs -another mind bender about animal behavior!rogjack6112@comcast.net

I found this article quite neat; it’s neat because it’s rare to witness untrained heroics in animals. As a dog owner I do honestly believe there was good intent behind pulling the other dog off the road. The dog that was doing the pulling did not look starved. It is quite possible the dogs were in a pack, in which case dogs are extremely loyal.

While cannibalism is not common among higher vertebrates, they will indeed eat each other if hungry enough. Read “Alive!” if you don’t believe me. Which, ironically enough, also involved Chile.

I am very upset right now. I can’t believe that you would put something so disturbing on your site. Even under the guise of showing a “heroic” event, the point is it is still a video of a dog being run over. At the very least you should have had a warning so that anybody who would be upset by something like this could avoid it entirely. Even the screenshot brings me to tears. Thanks for ruining my day.

Havana, Moscow – same problem – tons of homeless dogs – in Moscow they go down into the subway to stay warm, end up sleeping in the cars… the city is MASSIVE and when they wake up and get off the train, there’s little chance they’ll find their buddies again – it’s a lonely life. anyone who says this was cannibalism is an idiot. and humping? you people are fools – s/he’s dragging it to safety.

I saw this video a few days ago and was so disturbed by it because no one could confirm whether the other dog survived or not.I doubt seriously that his buddy was out to eat him. He might have done so if the dog was dead in an alleyway, but it’s pretty obvious that was not the goal here.Dogs are surprisingly selfless when it comes to helping those they consider part of their pack.

After hurricane Andrew hit us in Miami we emerged from our damaged apartment building. I took my eight year old step daughter down to survey the damage. The ground was literally covered with dead birds (sparrows, blackbirds, blue jays, mocking birds). You couldn’t walk without stepping on them. It was shocking.

Just then the geese from the lake came waddling around from behind the building! They had survived! I pointed them out to my daughter and she smiled and began calling to them…

… but then we noticed that the geese were eating the dead birds.

I once saw a cat get its hind part smashed by a car. It was trying to get to the side of the road using its front paws. The look of terror on that cat is ingrained in my head … and all that was going on while I glanced out my window going 60 mph.

Alot of animals will drag their food to someone quiter away from dangers or others also trying to get some.

I hate to cast a gloomy spin on this, but it looks to me like the “rescue” dog may be hungry and looking for dinner (also known as the dead dog). Sorry, but it happens in the animal world.
