That picture has always bothered me. That and Seabiscuit when the kid’s parents pawn him off to other people who can care for him. I guess Depression era stuff freaks me out.

In the CNN article it does say the mother died in 1983 and her tombstone actually refers to the picture. I forget the exact quote.
