Japanese Man Lives In Airport For No Reason

It sounds like someone took Tom Hank's role in Terminal too seriously.

Japanese citizen, Hiroshi Nohara, has decided to live in the Mexico City airport for 3 months and with apparently no reason. Since September 2, his home has been in the terminal and he has survived off food and clothing donations from travelers and airport shops lookin for advertising. In his own words, he claims to have no reason for staying so long:
"I don't understand why I'm here," he said through a visiting interpreter originally hired by a television station. "I don't have a reason."

He is now a minor celebrity in the city, as his refusal to go home has ignited the city's imagination. Neither Mexican or Japanese authorities have been able to help persuade him to leave and he may stay put until his visa runs out in Early March.

Yep. Terminal was based on the story of Merhan Karimi Messeri who lived in the Charle De Gaule Airport from 1988 to 2006. He now resides in a homeless shelter nd is considered quite insane from his experience.

I may be a cynic but I think this man is not insane at all but a caculated guy, doing this for the attention. He admits as much as that he has knows about the movie 'The Terminal.' He is already a minor celebrity in Japan. No doubt that in Japan where it seems like anyone and everyone can be a celebrity for the smallest things, he's already dreaming of the book deals, talk show circuit, and tv/movie deals lining up. He's laughing all the way to the bank!

Um, if someone wants him to leave the airport, how about getting the police or security to arrest him? In this day of hyper-vigilance and concern for safety, why has nobody thought of that? I must be the cleverest person on earth! :)
