Spike the Potato

By Miss Cellania in Home & Garden on Nov 15, 2008 at 1:53 pm

“Spike the Potato” is a highly amusing game for any party. All that is needed is a single large potato, a number of paper cones, and some needles.

Actually, according to the above blurb, you also need glue, string, and cotton balls. But you could skip a lot of this and use darts. Add a few cocktails per guest, and you’ll have a really swinging party! This amusement is from 1933. Link -Thanks, Lee!

This is a gateway game, before long you’ll be hunting man on a far off island in some bizarre blood sport.

    LOLed at “swing the tuber”

A better version of this game consists of setting up two 12oz cans of beer, two teams of however many, and some darts.

one on each team, in turns, throws darts at the beer, if they miss they collect the darts and pass them to the next teammate, until they puncture the beer. whoever hit the can, then runs up finishes the now leaking beer, collects the darts and sets up another beer.

one beer for each person playing. Mix in beerpong when that gets tiring.

Socialites? Yes. The potato represented the poor, and the paper cones represented “entitlement” (by bloodline or fortune), and the needle represented industry (materials and manufacturing) that they controlled and used to control the poor.

Totally made that up. Or did I?

It would be interesting to go without modern electronics for a week or so just to find strange alternatives of entretainment such as this!
