Wonderful photo! I've traveled through Bolivia the past 3 summers, for several months each time. The people are incredibly warm and friendly once you begin a conversation with them. The indigenous enjoy explaining their beliefs and cultural traditions....which are seeped in a rich tapestry of history. It's the kind of place where a person can get off the 'gringo trail' and really learn something!

We have similar stores all over the place down here.
(Mostly catering to the Santeria and other Central and South American 'religions'.)

WOOOOOOOOO!!! Something mentioning Bolivia. I am touched. (My dad's from that country.)

*Ahem* I have to say I never heard of that practice. Then again, my family is related to Spanish royalty, so they consider anything indigenous to be below them. Of course, unless they're trying to be "enlightened", then they wear a poncho and listen to psuedo-indigenous music. A lot like liberals in this country, actually. (For the record, I am liberal and am guilty of wearing a poncho, so I'm making fun of myself.)

Doesn't look mammalian to me - I reckon they're dried ducks. You can't get proper dried llama foetuses these day, the shops are full of cheap immitations and most people can't tell the difference anyway.

That's some weird stuff. I know Mayan indians in Guatemala believe in burying the afterbirth of their childen under their fire hearth. I think they believe it makes them more prosperous.
