Divorce Photo Album

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on November 8, 2008 at 11:58 am

Italian photographer Gianni Fasolini heard that the divorce rate is going up and got a brilliant idea. People take wedding photos, so why not offer them a divorce photo album as well?

"People celebrate a marriage as a milestone in their lives, but a divorce is an important event too," he explained.

The 45-year-old added: "I have been doing photos of weddings and marriage ceremonies for years, day in and day out, and people told me they like having a photo marking important events in their lives.

"Then I got to thinking that maybe there would be some demand for people marking their divorces and so I started to offer photo sessions for freshly divorced couples – them smiling or shaking hands or in some cases even kissing.

I'd do that. I threw a party when I got divorced and i celebrate the anniversary every year.

How about one of them crying and then committing suicide? :D

An article about photographing divorce is interesting but it lacks the important part..the photos. Unless, no one is actually interested. It's an important period but rarely ever not depressing enough to record.

Another idea: I think we should do away with the old custom of throwing a shower for someone who is getting married. The way it works these days, we should help two people have a yard sale when they move in together, and give them a shower when they divorce, because that's when they lose all their stuff!

the only problem is people fill albums with photos of *happy* occasions. you don't take snaps of grandma's funeral, or daddy's arrest. no one wants divorce pics.

Actually, sw, other photographers I know have tried breaking into the funeral photography market. It seems foreign to me, but I guess tehre are some people out there who want to remember the funeral.
