Price dropped a few cents this morning; it was $2.10 for 10% ethanol blend when I went by at lunchtime.

I tend to pay the extra to get the Regular though; my vehicles get 2-3mpg more using Regular instead of the blend. Probably works out to about the same cost per mile driven.

The lowest gas price I’ve seen in a long time is in a town just east of where I live. Brownsburg, IN has gas for $1.79.

Bobbert Jefferson’s calculations are a litle out as, although it’s still about £1:00 per litre here in the UK, the UK imperial gallon is actually 1.20 US liquid gallons by volume and at todays exchange rate (£1.00 :$1.6413) that puts the equivalent pump price at about $6.22 per US gallon. So I still don’t want to hear any complaints from you guys about your $2.00 per gallon nightmare.

It’s $3.05 at the gas station by my house in Hollywood. The highest it rose this summer was $4.71.

Other areas in L.A. were more expensive than that. There is a gas station at Melrose and Fairfax that is notoriously expensive. It’s usually around 40 cents more per gallon. Not sure why. It’s not Beverly Hills.

Also, the area around LAX — namely Inglewood — is currently around $2.85 – $2.99 per gallon and dropping.

Not as cheap as the rest of the country, but it’s nice to those of us who are used to these prices.

$2.13 at the stations on my way to work this morning. That’s for 10% ethanol blend, thanks to the gubment subsidies. That only works in the corn belt because of the cost to ship it outside the area.

@just a guy: It’s my understanding that fuel prices are dropping because the speculative investor funds have dried up, thanks to the credit crunch. Just a few years ago the US law was that the only people who could speculate in the fuel market were actual buyers and sellers, not Wall Street traders. Then the law was changed. Traders from outside the industry jumped in and drove the futures up. Now the easy money is gone, so things are returning to a more normal level.

Shows how much of the cost of a litre is tax when the barrel price doubles plus but the price rises by less than 20%.

$2.09 this morning in Dayton, Ohio…but diesel is still $3.49+. Gas companies have found their bread-n-butter: raping truckers. That’s why regular gas is getting cheaper. We can stop driving, truckers can’t.

$9.04895634 USD hahaha approximatly here in the good old United Kingdom – basically it was £1.197 for a litre of diesel the other week, although it is creeping down as we speak… Due a hike in a week or so’s time as OPEC have anounced a cut in production rates.

prices have dropped by around 20% here in the as well to just under £1 per litre.. which I make to be about $6.20 per US gallon.

$2 per gallon is cheaper than water. (bottled at least)

I’m more interested in *why* gas prices are dropping. The huge profit margin gas compines make allowes them a lot of leeway in setting their prices. It the a political reason behind this? It is fallout from the economic troubles? I have no idea! Anyone?

Ethanol unfortunately doesn’t deliver the fuel economy that regular ol’ petrol does. Cheaper fuel but you use more of it.

That wacky ethanol (@ nick) could help make everyone’s gas cheaper …and yes, without starving the poor of the third world.
