In many areas (like America), using someone's password without their permission is tantamount to forging their signature on a document and is prosecutable as fraud, I believe.

whereas I can see hacking as a punishable crime, if he gave her his login info when they were together, then she shouldn't be guilty. Doesn't that kind of stuff happen with couples all the time? (one using the other's info/access - like creditcards or emails - after a breakup to do mean things).

Again, though, even though this story is kind of silly, its a great example of how media twists things to get more 'ratings' (or 'views'). This issue really had nothing to do with 'murder', virtual or no. She'd be in the same trouble if she just deleted his account or gave away his avatar's stuff, etc... it's really about cyber-crime.
