Woman Rewards Her Teenage Girl With ... Cigarettes!

Posted by Alex in Crime & Law on October 21, 2008 at 11:14 am

Having trouble with your rebellious teenage kid? Maybe discipline and punishments don’t work, but according to this one mom, cigarettes work wonders:

Teenager Sam Holt’s behaviour would leave most parents in despair – drinking, smoking, taking drugs and having sex. But the 13-year-old’s mother thinks it is ’sweet’ rather than shocking.

Tracy Holt even rewards her daughter with cigarettes on the rare occasions when she does behave.

Miss Holt, 43, knows Sam drinks but is just relieved that it’s not more than a couple of cans of lager a night. And she decided not to get angry about her daughter losing her virginity at 12, instead insisting that Sam uses contraception.

Miss Holt, a jobless single mother with two other adult children, told Closer magazine: ‘I don’t see the point in punishing her. If I ground her, I’m just punishing myself because I have to put up with her in the house. Instead, I reward her good behaviour by giving her cigarettes. If she’s bad, she goes without. She’s a little comedian. I let her get away with a lot of cheek. It’s sweet.’

I’m guessing that she’s probably not in the running for "Mom of the Year" Award: Link

From the article: "Miss Holt blames teachers at Sam's former school for being 'too soft'. She said: 'Now she is at a special school where there are fewer kids in each class.

'Hopefully these teachers will be stricter and she will finally get the discipline that's needed.'"

Yeah, of course. It's not as if discipline was something kids should learn from parents anyway.

it's surprising how many dumb parents there are in this world.

Wow, I'm speechless. And if there's anything worse then what this mother has done is that she blames the state! She wants to take no responsibilities in raising her child yet doesn't hesitate to blame the schools for being "too soft?"

Even the nanny state can't account for this amount of stupidity.

As soon as I saw this headline, I knew this had happened in Britain. I click the link and it was confirmed. Don't ask me how I knew .. but I did.

"We've all got to die sometime. I haven't got cancer from smoking so she'll probably be all right anyway."

    Can't argue with that logic....

everyone you have it all wrong, this is in Europe, where its sooooo great, they have no age limit on drinking.

    its great America, really....

look pretty soon that little girl can go to war and die for her country so let her have her fags and she isn't a proper drunk yet (so her mom says)

Well, to be fair, Linsday Lohan's mother got some mother of the year award, so really she may not be all that far behind. Right after Britney's mom.

I feel sorry for this girl's teachers. They haven't a hope when it comes to disciplining this kid. But hey with a mom like this who needs a dealer/pimp/role-model.

What a great case for easily accessible birth control and keeping abortion legal!

At least this broad is honest. Some stupid people have the wisdom not to obscure their ignorance with lies.

    That's all I got.

I'm not British but I do watch "Top Gear" and "Da Ali G Show", so that makes me qualified to say we've got a couple of chavs here.

    Alice—

That's really weird because for some reason so did I. I thought it was in the article but then I went back and read it and it wasn't there.

Hey Sarah Palin is supposed to be a good Mom by teaching abstinence only education and her daughter ended up pregnant. At least this woman is teaching her child to be responsible with the things she is or will be doing. She's going to do it anyways.

The way I see it, she's setting her daughter up for a lifetime of failure.

well the more you say no to your child, the more he/she is gonna do it.. rather than them doing it behind your back, tell them okay but give them a limit.. at least you'll know what they're doing..

cept the mom's a bit.. too overboard? hmm

I wrote about this yesterday on my blog too. As I read the original article I was getting so heated at the mother's "logic". *Sigh*

I can just picture little Sam talking like Vicky Pollard. :-)

If this is indeed true, why hasn't the mother been charged with child endangerment?
