As mentioned above, beer and clam is pretty popular in Canada. My uncle drinks it like water.

Growing up in the Maritimes of Canada, I was introduced to a simular drink in college. It was formally called a Red Eye, but we also called them Seizures (a play on Caesar). It was 1 part Beer and 1 part Tomato Juice.

Tomato Juice contains fructose, a type of sugar that helps your body metabolize alcohol more quickly which helps prevents hangovers and is a hangover cure.

Red beers are one of those things that sounds...and looks gross but worth at least one try. We drink them with Coors Light and V8. They're an awesome 'hair of the dog' style hangover cure.
The canned ones have kind of an artificial flavor and are gross.
I live in Wa. state I'm a girl and I am not Mexican.
Stereotypes....bah.

When I was a bartender many years ago, several regulars would ask for beer and clamato juice, or sometimes they'd ask for beer and tomato juice. None of them were Mexican or Canadian.

I thought it was gross, but then I don't like beer.

Cheladas, and their prima the Michelada are actually quite badass when properly prepared. In this case, proper preparation should not involve a budwiser product. Good ones are somewhere between a Bloody Mary and a Red Beer. The Michelada is just Mexican lager and fresh lime juice over ice in a salted glass, and is pretty incredible on a blistering Sonoran afternoon in July.

Heather - A caesar is made with vodka and Clamato (along with worcestershire, tobasco, celery salt and a stick of celery or hot pickled bean). Not beer.

"Clamato" is a popular drink that has been around in Canada for many years. (Heres a link http://www.mottsclamato.com/) It does have a very strong flavour that will make your mouth water just thinking about it. Once you get past the strangeness of the flavour, you will be a fan. However, the Bud and Clamato version (like all other pre-mixed drinks) would not be nearly the same as buying can of Clamato and mixing it yourself at home. It's also good as a chaser for tequila if you're so inclined.

Too bad the racist thoughts from the previous poster would sway anyone else to prejudge something without trying it. "the only people that buy it are the Mexican immigrants". I feel bad for you.

LOL Pol x...Aww, is it raining on your lil island? :(

Red Beer is actually quite good as an evening cocktail, too. I prefer Snap-E-Tom or Spicy V-8 works nicely, too.

I'm from the Two Virginias (first one and then the other) and I can say I have friends and family who have been mixing beer and Clamato forever - it is one of untold variations on the concept of the "Red Eye" (beer + tomato juice) which is so essential if one is going to drink all Friday night and tailgate or get married on Saturday.

Well that required some research.

It turns out that "Clamatto" is some drink that's not quite tomato or clam.

And "Budweiser" apears to be some drink made from not quite beer.

A most interesting place you have there.

Beer and Clamato is a big thing in Canada. We add a few other ingredients usually worcestershire, tabasco and a stalk of celery and call it a Caesar
