Waterdrop

Here is a fascinating and potentially sea sickness inducing project by Héctor Serrano Studio for Roca (a bathroom and accessories company) introduced at the 100% Design London exhibition. Called “Waterdrop” the project is a fascinating amalgamation of engineering, playing with light, and tricking the senses. Made up of hundreds of vertical rods with little blue lights attached to the top and run by motors to mimic the physics of a drop of water hitting a surface of liquid is certainly something to behold in person.

I can easily imagine myself with some zen or water soundtracks playing in the background as I watch this in a dark room. Of course, three things could possibly occur in this imaginative scene: first you may feel relaxed and at peace, secondly you could end up really needing to go to the bathroom, and third you may just end up feeling sea sick! Which may answer the reason why Roca funded this project…to make you run for the bathroom they built! ;)

Check out the link below for more info and pictures of the project!

Impressive only because it *wasn’t* CGI. This is the kind of thing that was cutting-edge computer graphics back in the early 90s.

Am I the only one who found the presentation and music a bit annoying?
