i saw the headline "Poe Toaster" and all i could think of was my morning bread with an image of a raven on it. i must be quite literal minded today. maybe there could be the image of a cask when your toast pops up. or maybe a phrase... "the tin-tin abulations of the bells bells bells" or "nevermore".

i think i'm just hungry.

FindingDulcinea's (www.findingDulcinea.com) On This Day feature today is about the discovery of Poe on the Baltimore Street, and presents all the competing theories. It also links to a story about the Poe Toaster. Click on my name for a link to the story.

Really, Callie? So his drinking to excess all through his life was just allergies?

You know, the more I think about it, if he were living today we'd call him a drunken, incestuous pedophile.

Actually, Poe was allergic to alcohol. He may have drank himself to death ,but not the way you think.

Once of the first things I did when I moved to Baltimore was go see the Poe toaster. The whole experience is surreal- it's very hushed and kinda like church. It's awesome.

It's a bit of an oversight not to mention Poe's last words just before his death. It's true that he never came to enough while in the hospital to explain what happened to him. But he did have one final moment of lucidity, in which he uttered the words "Lord help my poor soul"... and then died.

There has been speculation that the mystery toaster is a son that no one knew Poe had. Or that it's a close friend who drank with him during his night out. Then there is the idea that perhaps this is just a really dedicated Poe fan. Either way it's quite intriguing to hear of a mystery visitor whose identity is never revealed. Sounds a bit like a twisted story.

In today’s day and age, cooping doesn’t happen these days? Nothing like a little little repetition.

I read his biography once; he led a very, very sad life. Poe lived in poverty most of his life, and would occasionally go on drunken benders. He was partially to blame for his misery. He had a tendencey to burn all his bridges while he was still on them.

The "cooping" bit is probably a bit of a copout, with no basis in fact. He drank himself to death.
