Paul Newman RIP

Posted by Alex in Movies & SciFi on September 27, 2008 at 10:02 am

Legendary actor Paul Newman has died at the age of 83 of cancer:

Paul Newman, the legendary actor whose steely blue eyes, good-humored charm and advocacy of worthy causes made him one of the most renowned figures in American arts, has died of cancer at his home in Westport, Connecticut. He was 83. [...]

In 1982, Newman and his friend A.E. Hotchner founded Newman’s Own, a food company that produced food ranging from pasta sauces to salad dressing to chocolate chip cookies.

"The embarrassing thing is that the salad dressing is outgrossing my films," Newman once wryly noted.

To date, the company — which donates all profits to charities such as Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang camps — has given away more than $200 million. Newman established the camp to benefit gravely ill children.

What a contribution he made while he was here. He’ll be remembered, discovered, celebrated, and loved for all time.

While just about every role was wonderful, I have to say my favorite is Henry Gondorf in The Sting. The card game on the train? Just classic.

He took a terrible tragedy (the death of his son) and developed a charity that will be part of his legacy. A great actor, but most important a giving, caring person. He’ll be missed. PS My heart is breaking for his wife. True love keeps people together and never dies.

His talent and good looks seemed only to be trumped by his loyal giving heart. There aren’t any like him now that he’s gone. My prayers are with his family, friends, fans and all that loved him. There’s a void on this side of the univerese with his departure.

He is one of the few actors I’ve never had any problem with. He never seemed to be one of those stuck ups that they have in Hollywood these days.
    He will be missed.

What a sad, sad day. Probably one of the best actors EVER, certainly the most gorgeous man ever, and likely one of the best, most decent of humans. I LOVE all of his movies, especially Slapshot, and if there is anyone reading this who has not seen that movie, SEE IT! He was a comedic genius as well. There will never be anyone like him. My heart goes out to Joanne and his kids.

A great actor, a great sportsman ,but most importantly a kind, decent, giving human being.
Some of my fondest movie memories were created by Paul Newman who is now gone but who will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace Paul

    “WHEN THE ACTOR DIES”

    When an actor dies
    springs from the heart
a beat that opens up a river in the chest.

    Her figure and her voice
    back to relive
    with the old scenes
that all his magic left within us.

    When an actor dies
the thrill of feeling a great loss
    finds no consolation
    When an actor dies
    We will be an illusion.
The actors are part of our family
    because with their art
    he gave a thousand dreams.

    When an actor dies
it is better to lift our eyes and see
a very powerful light that lights in the sky.
    And very close to God
    along with other stars
    find a place
    that smiling offer
    those who already are timeless.

    When an actor dies
    the thrill of feeling
    a big loss
    finds no consolation.
    The show must continue
    but without his presence
    and will be irreplaceable
    because the actors
    make us feel
    that life is more beautiful.

Paul Newman is the man Marlon Brando could have been had he not become so unhinged.

as somewhat of a youngster, i (sadly) have not seen any of his movies.. but that does not discount the sadness i felt when i heard he died yesterday. i am an avid buyer of his products (my refrigerator is stocked with like, 6 bottles of salad dressing.. lol) and in honor of him last night, i bought a pack of ginger-o’s. if i’m not mistaken, he passed his product line to his daughter, who has established many products under the newman’s own label herself. his legacy shall carry on, and he will definitely be missed.

Paul Newman was an amazing actor. Surely, he was one of the true giants of the screen.
