How to Build Your Own Solar Panels

By Miss Cellania in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods, Home & Garden on Sep 20, 2008 at 3:53 pm

Astronomer Mike Davis bought some land in a remote part of Arizona where he can observe the skies far away from light pollution. He is also far away from the electrical grid. Solar panels are expensive, so Mike made his own! How he did it is interesting, but you still must have some electrical know-how before you try it yourself. Link -Thanks, chris tackett!

This is definitely a project for a hobbyist. The true cost is going to be closer to $150 and take two days to complete. It is possible to buy a similar panel with the supporting electronics for $250 that also comes with a warranty.

My dream is to buy a house in the woods somewhere where I can live off the grid. So, articles like these always appeal to me as I can learn the ins and outs of the Solar Panel industry and processes. :)
