Cell Phones Affect Sperm Qualities

Posted by Alex in Medicine, Science & Tech on September 18, 2008 at 9:09 pm

Add this to the list of potential harmful effects of cell phones: bad sperm qualities!

Keeping a cell phone on talk mode in a pocket can decrease sperm quality, according to new research from the Cleveland Clinic.

"We believe that these devices are used because we consider them very safe, but it could cause harmful effects due to the proximity of the phones and the exposure that they are causing to the gonads," says lead researcher Ashok Agarwal, the Director of the Center for Reproductive Medicine.

    ...

    What's talk mode?

Does that mean that I should be putting my phone on flight mode?

Oh, I just clicked through and read the story.

It says that it's while the phone is in use, so if you have a hands free headset thing on your ear, and you put the phone in your pocket while you're talking, it isn't going to do your nads any good.

But you know what? I'm okay with that. It means that hopefully there'll be less pointy haired real-estate agents in the world.

You're trading brain cells for sperm. Your call. I suppose it just depends on how you plan to spend the rest of your life.
