:-(
We saw the entire scene from our office......

Unfortunately, someone was celebrating their birthday.

They can now never have a totally happy birthday because the term 9/11 is so associated with this

"To strike out in anger and to suspend your own laws m,akes you the same as the terrorist."

Was going to edit that.....

An act of vengeance is an act of terror, to be better than your enemy you must rise above.

When the US Army rolled into the concentration camps in world war 2, they didn't decide to just string them up and burn do-nuts in their Willys Jeeps.

No the rules of law both martial and civil were applied.

It marked out the US as not just the victors, but the MORAL victors, who rose above the mire and distinguished themselves and their country in theor conduct.

Ah.... I suppose I have some very rarified ideas regarding the USA.

In my book any place that Thomas Pane held in such regard has to be doing something right.

Raises cup of tea in salute to the USA,

raises small glass of Jameson's in memory of the dead of September the eleventh.

Ratz

that must be the most singularly dense fecking thing I have ever seen posted anything on Neatorama.

You actually believe that the murders of nearly three thousand people from nearly every country in the world means NOTHING to ...well the REST OF THE WORLD?

Your self pity adn Emo "Woe is me they don't understand" bull sh*t is both a humiliation to you, and an affront to to, well basically everyone who is NOT YOU.

Regardless of the subsequent war, regardless of the lack of any discernible connection between the two, regardless the dead on both sides of that debacle.... I can not concieve of a a single human soul that did not , to quote Kenobi, Cry out at once.

Here's the thiong.

And actiually listen.

When there is a terrorist attack, THAT is the moment for calm.

It is what defines a leader rather than an elected official.

To strike out in anger and to suspend your own laws m,akes you the same as the terrorist.

you can have no higher ground when you are in the pit with them.

Trust me, I grew up through the IRA's campaign, also the reasdon I find the US's stance on funding terrorists risible, as the US bank rolled the IRA for 35 years...So is it ok to bomb women and children when they don't live in New York?

But When a govt suspends the law.... very bad things follow.

N.Ireland was proof of that.

For every diploc court made a new recruit, every raid and body search of a mother made the son swear vengance, every indignity suffered made resolve harden.

I am just trying to draw a crrellation between the suspension of rights and of law and the exacerbation of the situation.

I wish all of you USAmericans my best, I hope you restore your constitution, bill of rights and democracy. Find peace and diplomacy to work beter for you than war, and care for those broken on 911.

Universal health care.

I doubt it means much to anyone outside the USA other than an inconvenience to their travel forever more. Sadly I fear that that and the laughable war on terror are going to be the lasting memories from the event, not the thousands who lost their lives.

Or perhaps people were just too busy thinking the world would disappear into a black hole on the 10th of Sept to notice what happened when it didn't.

More innocent people have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq than were killed in the attacks on the US on 9/11. Will those people be remembered? I doubt it.
