Maybe it's because pirates still exist today, and they display nary a bit of traditional pirate garb such as eyepatches, parrots or peglegs. What they do have are RPGs, hand grenades and assault rifles.

That's because the Greeting Card Companies haven't had the right fonts. Now, it will surely catch on. Unless the Big Pharmaceutical companies and the Psychiatrist League quash the whole idea. If they didn't limit it by calling it Talk Like a Pirate", and just called it "Pirate Day", maybe it would work.
