Queensland “Flasher” Ad

By Alex in Advertising, Travel on Sep 10, 2008 at 1:34 pm

To remind the people of Sydney and Melbourne, Australia that Queensland is a warm place to go to during winter vacation, Tourism Queensland employed a bunch of attractive women to … um, flash men on the street with this advertising message:

The objective was to make Queensland the number one choice for a winter holiday. To remind the Sydney and Melbourne markets than, evein in winter (it’s winter now in Australia), the weather’s warm enough to enjoy Queensland’s beaches 24 flashers were deployed throughout high traffic areas in chilly Sydney and Melbourne to promote sunny Queensland as a holiday destination this winter.

I find this ad more disturbing in its use of the female body than anything else. I can’t see how it would make anyone want to go to Australia so much as ogle a pretty woman in a bikini.

    We can’t do both?

Yes, my anti-virus stoped navigation due to a virus too.

However, the look on that guy’s face in that picture is perfect.

I love the guy’s expression. It shows him precisely .007 seconds before realizing he’s having the BEST DAY EVER.

The linked site has a virus? Well she may too, they do tend to tag along with sunshine, limited clothing and the holiday beer.

Melbourne grows on you, Queensland wears off.

I don’t think it is meant to attract tourists from overseas, as it is an interstate advertising campaign to goad folks from the southern sates of Victoria And New South Wales to go “Troppo” in Queensland.

I absolutely adore Melbourne, lived there for 7 years and fell in love with the place.

It has seasons, sometimes al in one day, QLD has climate…. all of it tropical armpit.

Actually the advert is VERY Queensland, they have a reputation for being a bit crass up there.

Also have a rep for not liking anyone not from QLD.

As the old joke goes, The QueenslandPremier has announced that they are going to build a wall around the state to keep the pooftas and foriegners out. All the remaining states in the Commonwealth have volunteeered to help.

Go Go Uncle Joe (Bjejke Petersen, super right wing ex premier of QLD)

    @Pol x
    LOL. Well nailed sir.

    One correction:
    >Also have a rep for not liking anyone not from QLD.
Even the newcomers from other states, of which QLD is now full, have a rep for not liking anyone not from QLD.

Somehow, Queensland appealing to the lowest common denominator doesn’t surprise me…

I remember a radio competition in Melbourne where they tried to come up with the best nickname for Brisbane, because the one being used, Bris Vegas, is misleading.

The winners were ‘Brizil’ and ‘Brisbekistan’ :)

    Larfin

    glad you liked

    And I stand corrected.

man I have to get back to Melbourne.

Overpowering need to sit under the palm trees at Greasy Joes in Saint Kilda and sink a few Coopers Red.

Hey, that’s the building I work in on the right!

Never thought I’d see it on Neatorama.

And yes, it was a pleasant surprise to get at lunchtime. Something for nothing!

That’s not me in the pic btw ;)
