If you really remembered how bad it was, you wouldn't want to do it again. For the sake of our planet, that wouldn't be such a bad evolutionary adjustment. Think about who you hold a grudge against the longest. Someone who hurt you physically or mentally. A dumped girlfriend will hate her ex for a long time but a physically beat up girlfriend keeps going back for more.
