Corset Ads

Victoriana has a collection of corset ads from the early 1900s. It’s good to know that at one time, you could choose from rust-proof corsets, glove-fitting corsets, or even a “fairy bust form”. Link -via Everlasting Blort

At least it's interesting to see that back then, a variety of body types were used to advertise clothing. Today it's pretty much limited to the Dove real beauty campaign and the Playtex 18-hour bra.

But the idea is still the same. "Even this fatty can look thinner. Don't you want to be less of a fatty?"

I find this historically interesting, aesthetically fascinating, and physiologically horrifying. My poor conflicted little brain...

True, Thomas. The fat chick is there for comparison.

I love the hairstyles. When are they coming back?

Just noticed, too, the French on this ad says "unbreakable whalebone corsets".
