Fleshmap "Listen": Body Parts in Music

Posted by Alex in Music on August 23, 2008 at 12:52 pm

What body parts do artists of various music genre most often sing about? As part of their Fleshmap art project, Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg looked at the data from rock to jazz to hip-hop to find what body parts are most often mentioned.

Link [Tiny NSFW images]- via Buzzfeed (no surprise there, a lot of booty in hip-hop!)

I'm glad I looked at this at home instead of at work. I'm pretty sure I see a butt and a vagina in the hip-hop one.

Ummmm...NSFW warning, please? The hip-hop section has some very, er, explicit images. (Sixth circle from the top...)

I didn't realize rappers spent so much time obsessing about white people's heads, hands, and genitalia.

OK so maybe it's my inner immature 13-year-old but I got a good chuckle out of this. I found some of the words that showed up in the glossary amusing. It definitely shows which genres are the cleaner ones, though.

Holy cow. But in the Christian one, are they referring to the animal version of ass, rather than the body part version?

A surprising number of penises everywhere else.
