Could the Geiger model be a reference to the art of HR Giger?

Wow, that's freaky!

Speaking of Alien-like features in real life, we have a nest of Cicada Killer Wasps in our back yard. They are monster-size — up to 2 inches long — and are named for their propensity to sting cicadas to paralyze them, then bring them back to their nest where an egg is laid on them and the larva that hatches feeds on the live cicada. Creepy, no?

My son was freaking out about the wasps, so we did some research on them to show him that they don't bother — or sting — people. He's still not entirely comfortable with them though.
