Total Eclipse

Posted by Miss Cellania in Pictures on August 2, 2008 at 6:13 pm

China, Mongolia, and parts of Russia experienced a total solar eclipse yesterday. A partial eclipse was seen in a larger part of the world. This picture was taken yesterday in Gaotai, Gansu province, China. See more eclipse pictures from around the world at the Huffington Post. Link -via Digg

I like the way they framed that shot with the camel.

That has to be nominated for photo of the year. Also interesting is the natch framing of the scepter statue with the half-totality eclipse.

Oh, and that last eclipse in the 90s? I got to see it through a welder's helmet, which I guess someone turned into "Eclipse glasses".

And here's one from the north of Sweden, roughly at the same time. We got about 65% coverage:

It isn't difficult to understand why our ancestors took these events as signs from the gods. Being inexplicably plunged into the dark suddenly would certainly send me to the the temple!

If they had snapped the photo a few seconds earlier, the pack animal would have been packing one heavy load right between his humps.

Took a minute to see the camel. Thought it was Batman
