I have one of these fish. The actual name is Senegal Bichir. They are really cool. They have ganoid scales, which are similar to snake scales and they can breathe air! Google or Wiki “Polypterus senegalus” (their scientific name) for more info.

If you will google Dragon skin body armour you will see that this concept is being used. Old news, been there, done that.
