A new error: the record swim was not from Cal. to Cuba… but must have been Florida to Cuba. California to Cuba would run you 3000 miles using the canal. Far more if you have to swim around the horn.

And what does grammar have to do with tolerance? I suppose I’m intolerant because I can’t stand it when “ppl typ lik dis” or use improper punctuation (like a question mark AND a period at the end of a sentence).

However, Oliver, “30-Mile” then becomes a modifier, with the expectation of a noun to follow. What 30-mile object did the man swim?

Theoretically, you could board an ocean liner, spend the entire time in a swimming pool aboard that ship, and, on your arrival on the other side of the ocean, claim that you swam the whole way.

When the two words are hyphenated, they become a singular compound word.

For example, if you said that a man ran a 50-yard-dash in such-and-such time, that would be correct. Now shorten it to, “man runs 50-yard”. Still correct.
