Waffle House Wedding

Posted by Alex in Everything Else on July 23, 2008 at 6:27 pm

We’ve featured quite a bit of wedding stuff on Neatorama, but never this: a wedding at a Waffle House!

The lucky couple, George "Bubba" Mathis and Pamela Christian - both 23 and employees at the Dacula diner located at the Ga. Highway 316/U.S. Highway 29 interchange - wouldn’t have it any other way.

"I don’t know, it’s something different," Mathis said while fixing his tie prior to the ceremony.

For years, the couple tried to marry on their Independence Day anniversary. But the bride was always scheduled to work. Instead of waiting any longer - she got the day off at the last minute; Mathis had to report for the morning shift - the couple of nine years decided to seal the deal at work.

The result was what a NASCAR tailgate might be like if Hank Jr. himself stopped by with all his rowdy friends: Loud and proud - country music, storytelling and plenty of Dale Earnhardt paraphernalia - and not an iota of pretentiousness.

Congrats to the newlyweds! Link | Don’t miss the Photo Gallery - via reddit

They’re both 23, they’ve been a “couple … nine years”. And they’ve been trying “for years” to get married. Is it just me, or is there something not quite right here? I’ve heard of young love, but 14??

“For years, the couple tried to marry on their Independence Day anniversary.”

I guess they did get married already, Lady C. But then they decided to break it off and try again when they were older.

Donkey: We can stay up late, swapping manly stories, and in the morning, I’m making waffles!

I’ve totally eaten there! Can’t say I recognize Bubba or Pamela, once you eat at a few WaHos the employees all blend together.

WOW!!! I thought my husband and I were rednecks for going to the local Waffle House after our wedding in 2003, still in our attire. Me in my long white dress and him in his white tux. But to have the actual wedding at the Waffle House, that has to be the coolest and most different kind of wedding I have heard of yet.
Congrats to the both of you and I hope you have a long and happy life together.
I still work at the Waffle House in Leeds Alabama unit 1093. Come see me.

Waffle rhymes with awful, but not with baffle.

If they’ve been together 9 years, something tells me they’ve already been reproducing. Good for them.

“both man and wife let out sighs of relief as they picked up their two little blonde girls”

    Reproduction=yes.

I’ve always wanted a nontraditional wedding but um…not at Waffle House…

Classy photo of the bride’s mom lighting the bride’s cigarette on the photoslide. And lots of photos of wedding guests in Christian slogan t-shirts…I thought having sex out of wedlock was frowned upon, much less having two kids already?!
