Wow, I guess this is just proof that San Francisco is just a little different and more European than other cities. Good thing I have a hybrid to fit in with my fellow nonconformist freethinkers.

George W. Bush’s sentence-by-sentence speaking skills are deteriorating. Apparently, this may be due to a mental illness called “presenile dementia.” Bush may or may not be secretly still drinking heavily. Bush lied, and thousands of people died. Bush suffers from narcissism and megalomania. Moreover, Bush has been arrested three times. Bush was arrested for disorderly conduct. Bush was arrested for stealing. Bush was also arrested for a serious crime—driving under the influence of alcohol. There are reasons to believe that Bush suffers from a learning disability. Bush’s learning disability would explain a lot of things. All in all, Bush is a severely mentally ill individual. Bush is not fit to be the president of the United States.

Bush should be locked up.

Actually a sewer treatment plant is good for everyone, it recycles our waste and in some cases we reuse the water for our consumption. these plants are now built eco-friendly as well. so that does not bother me. Personaly if you want to name things after presidents then i say we as a nation should name the next STD after billy jeff.

smallerdemon:

[False Analogy: An informal fallacy. “In an analogy, two objects (or events), A and B are shown to be similar. Then it is argued that since A has property P, so also B must have property P. An analogy fails when the two objects, A and B, are different in a way which affects whether they both have property P.]

You're missing the point. And actually helping mine. Anything good in San Fran doesn't necessarily come from being extremely leftist.

"I think that a handful of you are taking this post - and yourselves - far too seriously.

Whether or not one loves or hates George Bush, this story has an element of humor to it. You may be so wrapped up into the “us vs. them” politics that have polarized much of the nation over the past few years, and you may disagree with the sentiment, but come on, folks, trying to name a sewage treatment plant after an unpopular political figure is funny."

The story is funny. You're biased political slant isn't.

Keep it up Adam. I thought it was hilarious. I called a couple of friends and told them, and they thought it was hilarious too.

@Tim -- What kind of ego do you have to possess to actually email the proprietor of a site you like to read, only to tell them how to run their site. "Alex, It’s time you reconsidered on what we spoke about in our Emails." By your words, its obvious that Alex declined your suggestion to "flush" Adam. Did you really think that bitching and moaning would get anything done? Guess what -- you're not going to agree with everything you see in life. Neatorama is no different. If you disagree with something, SKIP IT. Don't go crying to daddy, complaining how Adam hurt your feelings, and life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. Grow the fuck up.

Personally I think it would be bad luck to name it after Bush, funny as the idea may be.

If one is still cheerleading for this administration, there's not much point in arguing with them.

This is a "neat" post to be sure. This is exactly the kind of cool stuff I come here for. Thanks Adam!

Adam, you prove my own point with your reply.

The definition of editorialize:
1. To express an opinion in or as if in an editorial.
2. To present an opinion in the guise of an objective report.

Or, more simply put:
To insert personal opinions into an objective statement.

"a fitting tribute for our outgoing President" is editorializing, albeit mildly.

"this sort of thing is disrespectful to the office as much as it is to the man" is not editorializing. I was not making, or pretending to make, an objective statement, but was expressing my opinion. For someone who expresses his opinion so vociferously, Adam, you certainly seem to have issues with others doing the same.

Nobody expects Neatorama to be completely objective, but there is some level of expectation for objectivity, and you certainly don't hold back with your political and personal criticism in the comments.

For someone who's not taking it very seriously, you certainly appear to be argumentative. I think c-dub's right: it is a form of bullying.

Adam, you really are a pain in the rear. Your claims that you post this stuff just because it's "newsworthy" and "neat" hold no water when you editorialize in the post -- and then comment ELEVEN times to defend yourself and criticize your readers. I wouldn't mind seeing a hundred anti-Bush posts here a day, but I find that sort of specious bullying really distasteful.

Sorry; poorly worded sentence in my comment above; should have read, "If you're so insecure that you're unable to ignore the comments. maybe you shouldn't be posting." That's better. And I'd better get some sleep. Too. Much. Driving. Today....

Apparently the issue is that your skin is too thin to be doing this sort of work. Show me any other Neatorama writer (or any other blog writer for that matter) whose name appears so often in the comments on his/her own posts.

What's the issue again, Dave? Is it that I am a leftist or that I haven't posted anything funny about Bill Clinton - the guy who was our president 10 years ago?

Truth be told, I'm working on a series of knee-slapping posts about Harry Truman!

Do you think the Communist Party of the USA will revoke my membership if/when I move ahead with the posts?

This is exactly the type of sophomoric thing I'd expect from the leftists loonies that seem to run the show there. Way to go San Fran. Cute, but you're not winning any friends; just preaching to the choir.

Amazing; all I had to see was the title to know it had Stanhope's name attached. The opinions you express, Adam, do wonders for your credibility. Was this story funny? Yes. But it was your editorializing and offensive posturing in the comments that really sets people off. If you're insecure enough to be unable to respond to criticism in the comments, maybe you shouldn't be posting.

@ Geekazoid & Adam:
Instead of getting all bothered about people who are bothered about your obvious left leanings on posts dealing with politicians who don't share your political views, how about you point out the last Neatorama post on a political figure from the left that was less than positive? I don't recall seeing anything about the Bill Clinton Presidential Library and Massage Parlor...

Come on, Ted. Lighten up.

I wasn't complicit in the stunt these people in San Francisco are pulling off. I merely repeated it here. That's not editorializing.

Nothing whatsoever that either you or I or the people in San Francisco or the other visitors to this site could ever say or do is capable of changing President Bush's lot in this world.

If anyone is editorializing here, Ted, it is you:
But this sort of thing is disrespectful to the office as much as it is to the man.

That's a pretty bold declaration for a man accusing *me* of editorializing.

Oh, Adam. You know that your editorializing isn't appreciated by everybody, but you continue to do it. Then, you get very defensive when people object to your political posts.

Out of 57 comments for this post so far, 9 are yours. You come off as insulting and condescending tone in your comments. Just post and don't worry about what people say after it's up. Or be a little less biased in the first place.

Some people put up crazy comments on both sides of the political issues here. But lumping them all in together just weakens your own argument.

For the record, I'm not a Bush supporter - I'm not even in the country. But this sort of thing is disrespectful to the office as much as it is to the man.

I think that a handful of you are taking this post - and yourselves - far too seriously.

Whether or not one loves or hates George Bush, this story has an element of humor to it. You may be so wrapped up into the "us vs. them" politics that have polarized much of the nation over the past few years, and you may disagree with the sentiment, but come on, folks, trying to name a sewage treatment plant after an unpopular political figure is funny.

If it was Neatorama's goal or my own personal goal to use this blog as a tool to constantly disparage George Bush, it would certainly manifest itself in a far more obvious way than this post. A team of people could sit from dawn until dusk, all day, every day, posting about people, places, events, programs, jokes, books, publications, movies, sound clips, video clips, etc., etc., etc. beating up on Bush - or any other controversial political figure for that matter. This is simply not happening.

I've been posting to Neatorama for more than a year and a half now and out of the SCORES of posts that I have contributed, I think I can count the overtly political ones on one hand.

It's ironic that the same ideologues who decry political correctness seem to assume a quivering lip and call for censorship the moment their hero is criticized or satirized on the internet.

There were 19 posts yesterday, one of which told the [funny] story about a group of eccentric people in San Francisco who are floating the JOKE idea to rename a sewage treatment plant after George Bush - and the reaction here reminds me of a small mob of Yosemite Sams - "hopping mad" at this perceived transgression. Relax. It's a joke. Somehow I think that even Mr. Bush himself isn't losing any sleep over this one.

According to our blogging software, there are more than 15,000 posts published to this blog to date. If your thesis here in this thread is that I have somehow subverted this blog and turned it into a forum for inappropriate presidential criticism, then a quick contemplation of the numbers involved should dissuade you of this particular fantasy. I'd also suggest that some of the accusations leveled against me in this thread and in email to me personally are far more volatile and inappropriate than the JOKE about renaming a sewage treatment plant after Bush.

I do not shower this site with politically oriented posts and I will pledge to continue not to turn this into a political website in the future.

That being said, if some day in the future a dairy farm in Wisconsin that sells its processed manure in bags to garden centers around the country announces that it is going to change the brand name of its manure from "Sunshine Farm Cow Manure" to "Bush Administration Cow Manure," then I reserve the right to post the story. You, in turn, needn't read it.

XOXO

I'm surprised so few are outraged, as I am, at this stupid waste of money. How many tens of thousands of dollars are going to be wasted voting on this trivial and unproductive attempt at political humor?

San Francisco (my teh city) is broke and burning millions a week on b.s., they don't need this, too.

It seems to me that the smart thing to do would be to stay away from politically slanted posts as a whole. The whole argument of "if you don't like it f- off and find a new blog or start your own" is very backwards. Neatorama is a business and the people who visit the site are customers. I've never understood why a business would do things to alienate their customers. It's rather funny that Adam is the only one who this theme continually arises. Everybody else consistently posts excellent material here. When Alex posts political items he at least does it in a way that isn't interjecting his own political views.

I as a customer have come to love Neatorama as a daily visit. And I believe that Adam is ruining what I have come to love. There are obviously many loyal readers here who don't want to have to leave this site. Adam seems to be doing just that, driving away customers.

Just a thought for you Alex... I would ask Adam to keep your customers in mind with his posts.

Wow, some of the people on this site are ridiculous. I'm not sure what I said that came off as disingenuous, perhaps some of you can shed some light on this?

I understand I don't have to read this blog, in fact, I would save a lot of time if I didn't, but a few months back, Alex asked the community what we thought would make the site better, a clear invitation to make suggestions for improvement of the blog, and now some of us are making them.

Brayden,

I think the drive to rename it after George Bush is funny, but does the post mesh with the usual tone of Neatorama posts? I don't think so, so I merely expressed that and tried to give a more tempered approach to topic since many of the people who didn't like the post merely ranted like crazy people.

But if you don't like our comments, skip them, no one is making you click the comment section of the story, you went here on your own.

To seeya:

See ya.

To Greg:

You don't believe yourself, and we can tell. You are disingenuous. You are clearly attempting to make a (very weak) case against Adam on the comments section of this here blog.

To everyone who thinks their holier-than-thou tales of
woe are going to sway the Neatorama staff to can Stanhope or curb his postings:

You all make me sick. You want a blog? Go make one. You don't like this one? (I'm sorry Alex.) Goodbye.

Don't like a post?

Skip it.

But you do not get to decide what Neatorama is all about. That is up to Alex.

Oh, woe is me, the golden days of Neatorama are through, magic days when there was no difference of opinion and everyone got along and the Internet was made of gold.

Get over it. Get over yourselves.

When you start your own blog, you can decide editorial content.

Until then, shedep. You disgust me.
