Absolutely true. Even with years of conditioning, the demands on your body are extreme and any condition that you would normally never notice can become severe. Running a marathon with a cold can actually kill you. The worst I’ve ever had was a six-mile blackout from exhaustion and dehydration. Nothing too bad, but enough to make you realize the potential danger in it.

I’ve heard that marathon runners bodies sort of shut down after a while and some folks just lose control of their bowels. True?
