  I’ve made a jeans quilt before, but the pieces were much bigger than 4″ squares. I’ve also made a cat scratching post, and back in the 70s I made myself a full-length coat from several pairs of bellbottoms.

  I get the feeling whoever wrote that article also knits their own dog-hair sweaters.

  this is GREAT!! thanks alex! i’m gonna make a bean-bag chair… keep posting useful DIY stuff.. especially if it uses recycled amterials. it equals fun for all!

  Most common use I have seen for recycling denim has been paper making. Not that that is an easy task everyone can do, but those that make their own paper commonly use old jeans as the rag content.

  My girlfriend’s aunt made a jeans quilt with a flannel-sheets back — the absolute warmest blanket I’ve ever used! It’ll cook a cold out of you in about two hours.

  One metalworker I knew used a cut-off leg as a workshop cap.

  I think I can do a quilt - though don’t you have to use some sort of a super-duper needle to stitch ‘em together?

  I make doggie rope bones out of old jeans. Dogs love them.
