Firefox 3’s Guinness World Record Attempt

Posted by Alex in Blog & Internet, Science & Tech on June 16, 2008 at 1:16 am

I <3 Firefox (Neatorama just downloads and displays faster on Firefox than any other browser) - so it’s my pleasure to try and help spread the word about Firefox 3’s Download Day 2008.

In one sentence: on June 17, 2008, Firefox wants to set a new Guinness World Record for Most Software Downloaded in 24 hours.

You can help (and help yourself to the neatest browser ever!): Link

    really, it displays faster and downloads better? what the hell are you talking about?

    Now, bear in mind, I am writing this from firefox, which is my favorite browser. But to say its faster is complete bull.
    Kmeleon is faster, Opera is faster (than version2, not sure of 3), Lynx is faster. You’re on some fanboy shit, get off of it.

    THANK YOU NYAR!

    it’s the same people who prominently display their apple products like beacons of undying hip-ness.

    The soccer moms of the internet if you will.

    I just started using Firefox 3 RC3 two days ago. It is a huge improvement imo but there are a few extensions that I am missing but the big ones like Adblock, Tab Mix Plus, IE Tab and Menu Editor work like a charm.

    I agree with the first post. Firefox has many, many positive traits, but “speed” sure ain’t one of them. IE7 completely trounces Firefox on my work computer, both in startup time and page rendering time. Click a download link in Firefox and expect to wait literally 15-20 seconds before the little download manager window opens– that’s simply pathetic.

    Again, I’m not dissing Firefox. It has a lot of good features, and great web development plugins. But fast? Not even.

    @James Schend
    Mine is just as fast as IE7. The only difference in speed is opening the browser for the first time which is only about a half a second longer than IE7. After that Firefox is extremely fast. Plus Ablock Plus and Tab Mix Plus make Firefox far superior to IE7. Fast browsing single window browsing, no ads EVER (Not even a empty spot on a page to let you know a ad was there), and no popups. You cannot get that with IE7.

    I have always used IE… just downloaded FF today for the first time. It sure got off to a good start with me by automatically bringing all of my bookmarks and settings over from IE. And Neato did load faster, at least faster than IE. And I am just realizing, as it underlined Neato, that it checks my spelling! How cool is that? sldkjfsdf <– also underlined :) Alright, now I’m just playing around.
