Obama, Japan

Residents of Obama, Japan (pop. 34,000) are delighted that Barack Obama is running for president in the US. The campaign has put their town on the map, so to speak, when smaller towns in Japan are competing for new residents. Manufacturers in Obama have labeled snacks, chopsticks, and t-shirts with the senator’s face. A local dance troupe called The Obama Girls traveled to Hawaii to compete in a dance contest, and hinted that they’d like to perform for Barack Obama himself. Is Alex the only one here that credits people with link suggestions? I know I forwarded this story over a week ago (along with others that have found their way onto neatorama). I’m not saying that these stories were not found on their own, but still I wonder. No big deal though.

The Obama girls “hinted that they’d like to perform for Barack Obama himself”. This would mean something totally different back in President Clinton’s day.

Even people in Tokyo are in on the Obama fever, or at least this curry shop in Tokyo is. They put a poster in their window, either to support Obama or exploit him, you decided. Photo and Google map to the curry shop here:
