i've totally seen cops violate the law in plain sight before. it's completely ridiculous and entirely hypocritical. i've seen them speed, i've seen them (on numerous counts) turn on their lights/sirens just to go through red lights, i've seen them double parked, i've seen them stand on the side of the highway POINTING at people to pull over for speeding, i've seen them (also on numerous accounts) pull people over in their unassigned district, i've seen them re-route traffic because they couldn't pull the back end of their vehicle that much further off the road.. it's an endless list and completely intolerable. and they get away with busting people after searching their cars without probable cause, just to meet their quotas and get a hiney slap from their compadres back at the precinct.

We used to have a lot of trouble in Hounslow, West London with the dibbles pavement parking outside their station. I worked next door and got so fed up with it I had a word with one of the senior cops who promised he'd peer out of the window from time to time and shout at whoever did it.

Traffic wardens are just as worse. I blasted on last month for double parking whilst giving a ticket. He looked at me all embarassed and that's when I snapped a picture with my cell phone cam. That! got his attention LOL!

Cops regularly don't give tickets to other cops or government employees with any pull.

"C’mon.. you’re just robbing peter taxpayer to pay paul. Not acceptable." Not necessarily; for most outfits whose employees drive as part of their job, any fines for offenses incurred while on the job are payable by the employee, out of his/her personal funds. The employer can't be held responsible for a speeding or parking ticket. I'd like to see someone step up like that around here. There is a city ordinance forbidding city employees from using a cell phone while driving, yet it's rare to see a cop driving without a phone stuck to his ear. Then there are the crosswalks; nobody stops. My kids go to a pool that's within walking distance but have to cross a busy street to get there. Yesterday even a cop blasted by them without stopping.

kid_icarus: Doesn't matter. It's about visuals here. Making an action like this visible is what counts in the public eye. Weather he pays it in the end or not is beside the point. If officers get ticketed more often, it will become a public issue and this is how the government is forced to change.

Brave guy. I hate it when law enforcement officers abuse their power, it just makes the whole institution a joke. It would really suck if it turns out he knows the driver, though.

That guy is my new hero. There used to be a cop in my old neighborhood that would, at 6am every morning, go flying down the main strip at 80 or more, lights/sirens going. He always ended up at McDonalds. I reported him out of general principle, but I doubt that it solved anything, and I moved shortly after that.

bout freaking time. It pisses me off when cops break the law and don't get punished for it. I have actually confronted a cop before about him speeding, talk about him being a jerk.
