Inventor Buried in Pringles Can

Fredric J. Baur, designer of the Pringles potato crisps container, was so proud of his accomplishment that he wanted to be buried in it!

Dr. Fredric J. Baur was so proud of having designed the container for Pringles potato crisps that he asked his family to bury him in one.

His children honored his request. Part of his remains was buried in a Pringles can - along with a regular urn containing the rest - in his grave at Arlington Memorial Gardens in Springfield Township.

I think it was a clever marketing gimic. And the Pringles themselves are pretty tasty.

I thought it rather silly some years ago when the decades in the marketplace the gov't forced them to change the name of the product from "potato chips" (actually it was "Pringles New-Fangled Potato Chips") to "potato crisps". It was ovious that some competitor had laid some green upon a congressman somewhere...

Part of him was buried in a Pringles can? I sure hope he was cremated first. ;o)

Agreed that Pringles are tasty, but since they switched to using sunflower oil in their cooking process (as has most every other chip producer) I can't eat them without getting a miserable headache. Stupid allergies. Probably shouldn't eat chips anyway!

I like Mitch Hedburg's joke:

I think Pringles' initial intention was to make tennis balls. But on the day that the rubber was supposed to show up, a big truckload of potatoes arrived. But Pringles was a laid-back company so they said "Fuck it, Cut 'em up."
