Fair enough. I have found that I have more fun with the game after a few drinks. I should also point out that some of the videos of kids playing the really really difficult settings for some of the speed metal songs are very impressive.

I’ve often wondered how they would fair at actually playing the songs on a guitar, b/c at that level they’ve really accomplished the most difficult parts of playing the quicker more staccato stuff.

I’m definitely not professional, but I still know my way around the guitar, but I’m not as critical while playing the game. I guess I’ve always just seen it as a timing thing and focused more on the colors i’m supposed to hit.

I say the very thing you don’t like about guitar hero all the time. I have played guitar for over 19 years. I play professionally in 2 touring projects and as a studio musician… and my experience is that guitar hero is harder for me than for people who don’t actually play guitar. Here’s why I think it is:

As a real musician, I anticipate playing all of the notes of a song. Guitar Hero, especially on the lower level, gives you a very low % of the actual notes to play. So instead of playing the real notes… I have to figure out which ones Guitar Hero wants me to play. It’s much like knowing a dance routine and then being asked on the fly to perform only selected parts of that routine.

The game is enjoyable enough, I guess… but I really only do well on the harder settings. Just thought I would add my take on why people who play guitar may complain about guitar hero.

Generation gaps… geez

I just usually get frustrated when people use the “I can’t get into guitar hero, probably because I can actually play a real guitar” excuse. Usually said in a condescending tone. It’s probably just because they suck at Guitar Hero.

But seriously. A guitar is an instrument, Guitar Hero is a rhythm video game (not too different from DDR) They’re totally different.

Also, I bet you’re paying up to 60% more on your car insurance than you need to. If you head to the Geico website, I’m sure you can find a better deal!

Are people here so self-absorbed they can’t figure out the instructional video is intended for a way younger audience?

The kid starts out kinda uncertain, kinda geeky. Guitar hero for DS? Not cool. The rocker starts out cool. By the end of the video, by playing the game, they’ve switched places. The geeky kid’s now the hot rocker dude, and the rocker is Liza Minelli.

A little tongue-in-cheek, but also very subtle persuasion.

that commercial is annoying though.
and that guy needs to cut back on the heroin.

My honest guess is that whoever made this commercial thinks that it is an accurate portrayal of genuine coolness.” There is a geek somewhere with a clipboard who’s real memory from his traumatic high school years have been repressed and replaced with scenes from 80s rocker films and MTV music videos. He’s got a case of blueballs so bad that his brain is frying and he now thinks that the movie scenes were his actual high school years. Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Robert Downey Jr., Tom Cruise and everyone else from “The Brat Pack” rolled up and squeezed into his tiny little brain.

So sad. So sad.
