Weezer salutes YouTube

Here’s a fun video by 90s rockers Weezer for their tune Pork and Beans. They’re clearly YouTube fans and the video demonstrates this. How many YouTube celebs can you identify? The Numa Numa guy looks real… Is that really Tay Zonday?

It really looked to me like they were all really there. I imagined the trials that their production staff must have gone through to a) actually get hold of each of them and b) convince them that they *actually were* from the company doing Weezers new video. And then for some, explaining who Weezer are :) Still, fabbo.

I like Weezer. It looks like those were all legit. I doubt they needed any convincing. The video just extends all of their fifteen minutes.

Amusing video. It does sort of piss me off that these people probably got paid a lot to do this video, though.

I’m kind of upset with Weezer. All of their songs before the 5 year hiatus are pretty boring. At least compared to their songs on the early albums.

I’m glad to see the youtube stars make some money off of their fame. They have all the downsides of being famous with none of the perks. Youtube killed the video star.

This is a really fantastic video. Props to Weezer for embracing the internet stars out there. Often I feel kinda bad for them because of all the ridicule they get on the web, but they were put in a good light here.

Nice job Weezer and thanks Neatorama for posting this music video.

Federline sighting, cool. Numa Numa looks like he hasn’t changed a bit. Love Weezer, old or new.

According to the band, all of the cameos were made by the real people aside from Kevin Federline (Stock footage).

There’s an interview with the director of the music video… At http://blog.wired.com/underwire/2008/05/director-behind.html
He talks about what it was like to work with the youtube stars and the thought behind the video. Quite interesting.
