Of interest to some perhaps, that it was the setting for Mervyn Peake's novel "Mr.Pye".

Who when he is good grows angels wings, and when bad, a devils horns.

A nifty conceit, and also a rather splendid tv series from the 80s starring Derek Jacobi as out eponymous hero.</description>
