In grade school when I lived in Hawaii they would teach us these Japanese folk tales along with a little song that went to it. We would then have to draw pictures of the heros and so on.

Really, if you can’t be bothered to rhyme well, don’t try to rhyme at all. The effect is jarring when you read the awkward or simply unworkable rhymes.
Kinda tacky, otherwise.
