Shark surfing

An amazing story of a boy, a beach, a board and a shark. It looks real to me. What do you think? [YouTube]

Uhhh, since the video is listed under "comedy", I think it might not be real.

I'm hoping it's not real. That would be unfortunate if it were.

That takes balls...and absolutely no brains.

yea i'm pretty sure it's fake, the shark conveniently stayed perfectly in the water so that just it's fin was showing and it didn't dive deeper either...

You can see the trail of a boat in the path between the surfer and the shar. So most likely, the "shark" is tied to a boat and they just shoot it such that you never see the boat.

Isn't that a boat wake the shark is "swimming" in. Let's not be so gullible people.

Real or not, that guy should be beat with a stick for chumming the water around other surfers.

    Very very fake. amusing though

Fake. The so-called shark does not ripple the water or leave any sort of wake behind it.

yeah that huge dorsal fin looks like a giant great white, nd with all those other perfectly calm surfers all around... all other facts aside..
well, i'll let you decide heh

I can find two things wrong with this, but i dont know if they are true. First, its too shallow water for a shark (again, idk if thats true). Second, didn't you see all the bystanders just watching a foot away?

Ha that huge wake and that huge fin are great. also, why would he need to be told a shark took his bait that was lying like 5-10 feet away? he would see and feel it. and the nearby super calm surfers...

I love the guy at the end though. What happened to the pole? He took it? He took it?!

That shark wouldn't have calmHave you guys ever seen a shark eat something? It would have ripped the guy right off his board.

Also, way too close to the shore. Sorry, kids.

**Wouldn't have calmly taken the bait.

Yeah, my BS detector is flashing 'extreme'. Sorry; growing up in Australia where surfers regularly get the chomp by anything from a bull shark to a great white, it seems a little far fetched. Add to that what Viola just said about the calm taking of the bait, the fact the shark didn't dive...too many conveniences add up to the smell of fantasy.

Still, funny clip...until some moron thinks it's possible goes out to try it for themself.

    Oh this is so fake.

And not for any of the usual intenet reasons.

Usually people seem to cry "photoshop" like that answers everything, it doesn't.

The thing that screams fake is the camera work.

See when the camera man drops the shot and you see the board walk and then he whisks back onto the subject?

Ahve you ever, and i mean EVER seen a camcorder brought up onto subject that fast, accurately and in focus right away?

also there is no aperture lag, as the camcorder adjusts to the sudden chage in light levels between the dark boardwalk and the bright horizon.

The actual footage is bloody well done aside from this glitch.

Well done to the crazies involved.

Yes, it's real. I know the shark.

I think a shark would put up more of a fight.. I know the small dogfish goes crazy when it's caught on a fishing line.

Somebody call up the Mythbusters! I'd love to see them test this one ;-)

There are many clues that this is a fake. The wash from the boat towing the "shark" is briefly visible. The caudal (tail) fin of a real shark swimming on the surface usually is visible. A real snagged shark would not swim in a straight line for that duration.

The best part is the music. Perhaps the idiot should have eaten the meat, he looks kinda thin

I think the guy should be fined...I know, I know it's a shark, but if this is real he let go of the pole and now the shark is swimming around with a pole dragging....the guy's an idiot in more ways than one
