He wasn't adhering to strict uniform rules. Living in Britain myself, posties have to all wear the same uniform at set times, so shorts at set times during the summer, even if it is freezing, etc. They are representing the organisation, and each postie does his part. Who cares if they were "similar", they are still not regulation. As stupid and arbitary they may seem, the rules are the rules, and although the police escort seemed a bit heavy handed, discipline was the right way to go. I missed an entire afternoon's worth of classes as I sat in the dean's office because of it, so I can certainly sympathize with this guy - sometimes rules enforcement -can- get so stringent as to loose sight of what's actually -important- ...
